About Me

Jermaine Dwayne Freeman, born June 18, is a newcomer on the Jamaican Reggae and Dancehall scene, better known by his stage name, Bashwa.

Freeman was born in the Spaldings district of Clarendon and attended Smithville Basic and Primary School, before he went to Central High School. After dropping out of high school in 3rd form, he took his music to the streets, composing his own songs and learning new techniques, different beats, and experimenting with various rhythms. He has recorded numerous songs with various producers including Bonz Production. The titles “Streets No Safe”, “Clean Mi Clean”, and “Girl Dem Nuff” were all produced by Nellz Production. His other songs, “Run In House” and “Cheap and Clean,” were produced by another leading production company, Streets Side Records, while his hit song “No Medz” was produced by Zion Production. He has done a lot of work in the pipelines; songs the fans can all look for.

He’s performed at the May Pen Jerk Festival; Dancehall Jam Jam at Jamalco Sports Complex; Miss Bushy Park Beauty Pageant; Blackberry Christmas Swag at Triple xXx Sports Bar & Grill; Champion in Action in West Kingston; Dutty Fridayz in Spanish Town; and Early Sundayz in Portmore. His reputation was furthered by his performances on E-Strip Hitlist on CVM and Roll Out on TVJ, two of Jamaica's most popular television stations.

“A lot of people ask me how I got that name,” Bashwa stated in regards to his stage name. “Well, my stepfather gave me the name. At first I never liked it, but after music found me and I started, I said to myself, ‘why search for a name when I already have one’; so I used the name Bashwa, that's how it [came to] exist. I have a lot of love for music, so with my musical career I am doing good songs to uplift the nation, songs everyone can relate to. Remember when we all leave this earth, music alone shall live on; music has no boundary, so anywhere my music leads me I will follow. No one can predict the future, even though I am unpredictable myself like a dice.”

Bashwa is in the studio almost every day. Whenever he is not recording, he is compiling new songs and learning more about the music business. He will be performing live at the "Miss Bucks Avenue 2013 Beauty Pageant" on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at the Triple xXx Sports Bar & Grill, located at 23 Bucks Avenue, May Pen, Clarendon.
